I think you might have misunderstood the question.

I was able to download the show in question no problem. The problem is the tracks get jumbled, i.e. mixed up out of order, when copying to a media player, i.e. iTunes/WMP.

I was just wondering if there is a easy, or hard, fix for this. It seems that I cannot arrange them back to the original setlist even if I did it manually.

Thanks.

One work-around - create a playlist in iTunes in the proper order.

I think you misunderstood the answer. The right to download soundboards from the archive was terminated by members of the Grateful Dead in 2005. Not wishing to jeopardise the unrestricted access to streaming soundboards we still enjoy many of us here have agreed, tacitly, to abide by the band's wishes. No one can prevent you finding workarounds, but no one has to encourage it either.

It wasn't in the soundboard section. It was in the "downloadable" section.

Could you pass on the link? I agree with RTWS - only three streamers for me.

Funny that. All three versions of 5/5/77 in the Archive are stream only soundboards.

wtf? I guess your right. I just looked and its not in the downloadable shows. My bad. Maybe I used the link on the GD homepage showing the most downloaded items? That doesn't reallynmake sense though. Now I'm curious how the hell I downloaded a soundboard show!

Anyways, the question still remains. Unless this does not happen to files from audience recordings?

Ok - cutting to the chase, I just can't replicate your problem. Every track I've ever downloaded from the Archive is tagged d1t1, d1t2...d3t4, etc I just copy them straight over into iTunes and shazam! all is as it should be. It's just never been an issue for me - so now you have me puzzled.

Maybe you didn't actually download the music, but rather the links to the shows here on the archive. Disconnect from the net and try to play them. If you get nothing then you just have the links. This is how I can have SBDs on iTunes without actually "having" them. All iTunes has is the link, and I have to be online to actually play them.

But streaming via iTunes using the m3u file still plays the tracks in the right order. Can't be that.

I recall back in the day, i would run across an occasional show where the tracks were not actually in the correct order. I don't recall this for streaming, just for downloading. So i would download the show, add it to itunes and then have to re-order the show. I think some were uploaded and they didn't have the d1t3 etc labeling or something. Maybe our friend hit upon one like that.

Well I guess that could be... I accept what you say, of course, but I've just never, so far as I can recall, had that problem. Sometimes you just get gd74-08-04d2t04, or whatever, so you have to type in the track names yourself, but generally, I think, the track numbering is there.

And then there's the small matter of 5-5-77 being a stream only show. I think the root of the problem might just be traced back to that.

check this out.

http://www.archive.org/details/gd1977-05-05.sbd.cantor.7725.shnf

in the notes:

"*other transfers of this show do exist, and are tracked differently."

The order listed looks the same on all three to me however maybe the "d1t3" are not.

All that means is that some versions split the show up slightly differently. For example, the Betty Board you link has:

track 7 - Deal
track 8 - Lazy Lightning
track 9 - Supplication

whereas this unknown source:
http://www.archive.org/details/gd1977-05-05.sbd.unknown.261.shnf

has:
track 7 - Deal
track 8- tuning
track 9 - Lazy Lightning>Supplication

That's all that 'tracked differently' means. These arbitrary divisions don't affect the running order.

thanks to all for your help. As soon as my schedule allows, I'll try downloading another show and see if the problem persists. I still want to know how I downloaded a soundboard show. Beginers luck? I want more SB shows :(

It sounds as If your player is set on shuffle. Try finding the play options and disable shuffle, if that don't work, headbutt your monitor
